Key-Locking Mechanical Stabilization System
The Zanelatti Hoof Crack Band is a mechanical hoof-wall stabilization system designed to control movement and separation along hoof cracks during weight bearing and locomotion.
Its two-piece construction is secured to the hoof wall with dedicated screws and incorporates a central key-locking mechanism, allowing the two sections of the band to be mechanically connected and tensioned across the affected area.
Biomechanical Principle
During locomotion, the hoof capsule undergoes continuous deformation as it alternates between loading and unloading. In the presence of a hoof crack, excessive independent movement of the affected wall segments can increase mechanical stress at the margins of the defect and contribute to continued propagation.
The Zanelatti Hoof Crack Band acts by mechanically stabilizing the wall segments on either side of the crack.
The central key system provides the mechanical connection between the two band sections, while the screws anchor the system to the hoof wall. Together, these components create a controlled stabilization mechanism designed to:
