Shoe Features and Biomechanical Effects:
The basic principle of the Western Shoe is set back at the toe with the widest point of the foot used as a guideline for the center of the joint.
The Wedge rocker has a 3º angle to raise the podotrochlear apparatus. The rocker on toe supports the exit ensuring an effective break-over, whilst the side bevels reduce medial and lateral leverages. The slight rocker on the beveled heels helps to soft the landing reducing the shocks.
Therapeutic Effects:
The main function is to relieve the breakover to all directions and release tension in the deep digital flexor tendon, thus reducing stress on the distal sesamoid (navicular bone). It also reduce the pressure on the heels helping to relieve the pain. The 3° wedge is also helpful to correct negative palmar angle.
Indication:
- Deep flexor tendon injuries;
- Navicular arthritic;
- Cronic heel pain;
- Founder (low grade);
